Nunca me lo hubiera imaginado

Estoy segura de que la mayoría de las abuelas han experimentado lo mismo que yo…

 

Cada día que pasa, mi amor por mi nieto crece. Al paso de los días, él se convertiría en el centro de atención, tanto mío, como de mi familia. Ante cualquier gesto, murmullo o sonido, era la primera en correr a verlo (ya me conocen lo nerviosa que soy), preguntando, como siempre, a mil por hora: ¿todo está bien?, ¿respira bien?, ¿qué tiene?, ¿por qué está inquieto?, y miles de preguntas a la vez.

Y qué les cuento, por fin llegó lo que temía: cuidar al bebé a los pocos días de su nacimiento ya que su mamá tuvo que acudir al doctor. Para mí fue preocupante y estresante, mis nerviosos a todo lo que daban, y ¿qué creen? Pues sí, no me despegué ni un segundo de su lado, es más, me senté a observarlo minuto a minuto. Creo que cada vez que se movía lo tocaba para verificar que estuviera bien y que no pasará frío. Ya saben las abuelas primerizas: lo tapaba, lo destapaba, lo movía, lo despertaba… En fin, esos momentos se convirtieron en un episodio de mi vida lleno de temores, revisaba sus manitas y me repetía constantemente: todo está bien, todo bien, respira bien, está calientito.

Híjole, llegó la hora de cambiarle el pañal, temerosa lo destapé, claro, ya lista con todos los instrumentos necesarios: pañal, toallitas, mameluco, por si se había mojado, etc. 

Con todo y nervios logre cambiarlo pero, oigan abuelitas, les paso dos tips:

  1. Traten de cambiarlos lo más rápido posible para evitar que los bebés pierdan temperatura.
  2. No se comprometan a quedarse con ellos si no tienen experiencia. Eso les evitará momentos de angustia.
  3. En fin, en caso de no aplicar el segundo consejo, tomen clases previas en cuanto salga el bebé del hospital y cuiden que estén presentes su mamá o su papá.

Pasaban los minutos y el niño se movía o se quejaba y nuevamente repetía todo el ritual (tocar la carita, revisarlo del pañal, moverlo y ver que respirara) en ese momento yo pensaba que si el bebito hablará diría: “Déjame descansar, estoy bien, quiero dormir, abuela. Recuerda, soy un bebé saliendo del cascarón y descubriendo este mundo… ¿por qué te preocupas?” 

Mis nervios crecían aún más porque se acercaba la hora de darle su biberón, y pensé, “ahora si tengo que cruzar la línea de fuego”.

Me toca preparar la leche. En ese momento mi mente se borró y no me acordaba de cuantas medidas de agua y leche debería hacer, ¿cuánto me dijo mi hija? Hasta que por fin lo recordé. Ahora venía otro reto, cómo encender el moderno calentador de leche (aparato completamente nuevo para mí y creo que para todas las abuelas de mi generación). Fue un verdadero relajo, se me cayó el agua, mojé la mesa, no sabía cómo encenderlo, y el bebé ya en un llanto total por su biberón. Y yo, ya se imaginarán, mejor opté por bajar a calentarla a mi estilo, quizás arcaico, pero funcional. Ustedes abuelas saben cuál es… sí, adivinaron: en baño maría.

Una vez superado este paso, cargue a mi bebé, también de forma exagerada casi parado, ¿quién no lo hace así? Y empecé a darle su mamila. Debo confesar que constantemente le sacaba el biberón porque sentía que se ahogaba, creía que tomaba tragos exagerados y muy rápido, obvió, el niño enojado.

Así pasaron los días y fui superando esta prueba. Después me convertí en una experta en cuidados al nieto, en cambiarlo de pañal, en darle su leche, y afortunadamente, nunca me toco bañarlo, ya que desde un principio su papá, gracias al curso de preparación, realizó esta labor. Les paso un secreto: él usaba una pequeña toallita, la cual la mojaba primero en agua caliente y luego envolvía al bebe, para introducirlo en la tina, les aseguro que no lloran, y disfrutan mucho su baño.  Debo confesar que en lo que sí soy experta, es en darle cariño. Nunca me lo hubiera imaginado… ¡cuánto amor se siente por los nietos!

Los días corrieron y él empezó a descubrir el mundo, ya todo tocaba, ya observaba, escuchaba sonidos y reaccionaba. Y yo, como loquita, festejando y sacando fotografías por todas las graciosadas. Recuerdo que una vez su papá empezó a emitir sonidos de trompetillas y él bebe observó y enseguida empezó a imitarlo.

La emoción no me cabe en mi corazón. Es un amor inigualable, un amor puro y sincero, en fin, nunca me lo hubiera imaginado: poseo en mi mente miles de anécdotas que tengo guardadas… pero esas serán otras historias.
